about

Inspired by literary figures Voltaire and T.S. Eliot in both name and essence, ‘Optimism in the Wasteland’ is a psych-tinged, indie-rock song that comprises a classic blues-styled lyric about the desolation of youth, desire and personal identity in modern metropolitan life, delivered in a hard-hitting package of overdriven barre chords, effects-laden guitar solos, and thundering drums that would make John Bonham proud.

The song was recorded at Hercules Street Studios in Surry Hills during late 2015 with Sean Carey (formerly of Thirsty Merc) taking over production duties. With Carey at the helm, July Morning laid down ‘Optimism in the Wasteland’ with great purpose and fervour, creating a furiously energetic yet poignant track that forays into Hendrix-esque psychedelic rock while maintaining the spirit of modern indie rock.
